The Indwelling Presence of the Holy Spirit

The Spirit of God within us is a person, He is not an “it.”{*} He is more than just a mere influence; He is the infinite God residing within our hearts.  According to the scripture in 2 Corinthians 4:7 (World Wide English version) it reads, “This is something of great value within us, but we are like pots made of earth and clay.  This power is greater than any other power but it comes from God not from us”.

The Holy Spirit resides on the inside of every born again believer. He reveals Jesus to us according to John 16:13-14. The Holy Spirit is a Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, and Standby. (John 16:7)

Realize that there are enough resources in our hearts to meet the demand of every circumstance in which we will ever find ourselves.

{*} The reason why many Christians do not experience the power of the Spirit, though He actually dwells in their hearts is because they lack reverence.  We must trust the Holy Spirit the same way we trust Jesus the Son and God the Father.

  • The Holy Spirit will lead and guide you.

1 Corinthians 2:4-5 Paul said, “And my speech and preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power”.  When you give the Holy Spirit free course to move in your life, it is not about your ability (what you can do) or your intellect (how much you know), it is about being led by the Spirit of God.

Romans 8:14 states, “For as many are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God”.  In order to be led by the Spirit of God, you must know God.  That comes as a result of spending time with God, developing a relationship with Him through the Word of God, Prayer, Praise, Worship, and Thanksgiving.

The Holy Spirit is a Teacher.

1 John 2:27 states, “But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you, but as the same anointing teacheth you all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him”.

Have You Received The Holy Spirit Since You Believed?

Acts 19:1-2… and it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”And they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”

This message today is to assure you that this is an experience God desires for you to receive and enjoy.  The baptism of the Holy Spirit is for you today just as it was for the 120 disciples who received it on the day of Pentecost.

Acts 2:1-4… Now when the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

In this passage it has been recorded of how the 120 in the upper room first received the baptism of the Holy Spirit.  It says, “they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues.”  Peter says in verses 38-39 this promise is to everyone to whom the Lord calls, which means it is for you today!  God wants you to be baptized in His Spirit.

Acts 2:38-39… Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. “For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is something that God wants every believer to experience.  It is to be a major part of our life and fellowship in the Lord Jesus Christ as we are involved in carrying out His will and purpose.  We are not complete without it.  It is necessary in our walk with the Lord Jesus Christ.  We all desperately need it just as much as these early disciples did.  It is the baptism of the Holy Spirit that gives us the power to carry out His will in our lives.

Acts 1:8…“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

There are people who have never received this wonderful gift that God wants to pour into you freely because they lack understanding and many believe it was done away with the last Apostles in the bible and that is not true.  This gift is available for the believers today.
