WALKING IN GOD’S AUTHORITY BY: By Pastor Rodney W. Francis

We are living in troublesome times. It is therefore very important that Christians know who they are in God and what they have been called to do on the earth today. Recently, as I was waiting upon the Lord, I got these words: “When we are hearing the voice of God and being obedient to what He asks of us, we are walking in an authority that even the devil cannot stand against”. This is New Covenant Christianity in a nutshell. It is all about hearing the voice of God and doing what He asks of us. When we are living in obedience to God’s personal will for us then we have an authority that we can get no other way. True authority enables us to be overcomers of all the enemy brings against us.

“You are of God little children, and have overcome them (every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh), because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

  • When we are walking in obedience to God’s will then we are walking and living “one with Jesus Christ” ~ there is no greater place to be than having Jesus with us every step of the way.

ROMANS CHAPTER 8

If we consider what is written in Romans Chapter 8, we see that when we are being led and guided by the Holy Spirit we are in a place of complete victory; we are made free:

“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:2) . . . “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (Romans 8:11) . . . “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God” (Romans 8:14) . . . “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined (“ordained beforehand”) to be conformed (“having the like form”) to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies (“to set forth as righteous”). Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: ‘For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.’ Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors (“to more than conquer, to have victory beyond measure” – Bullinger’s) through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:28-39).

We need to seriously consider what is written here (read the whole Chapter).

  • When we are filled with the Holy Spirit of God ~ the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead ~ and being led by Him, then we are in a tremendous place with God that enables us to have authority over every person and thing that would try and discourage us and/or pull us down from this special relationship that has been purchased for us through what Jesus has accomplished for us.
  • Right now Jesus is alive inside of every Holy Spirit-filled person who is doing what Jesus has saved us for!
  • That means that all things are possible to us when we do what He asks of us. Hallelujah!
  • Are we listening to His voice?
  • Are we being obedient to the heavenly vision? (Acts 26:19).

Knowing the voice of God ~ and being obedient to His voice ~ is essential if we are to walk and live in His authority. His ways are far different to man’s ways, so we need to be hearing from God to walk in His way. Being obedient to the Highest Power that ever shall be gives us abilities to be and do things with His authority working in and through our lives.

There is no way that we can defeat the devil in our own strength and ability. It takes the greater power of God working in and through us to do that. Make very sure that you know how and when God is speaking to you. Then have that commitment to do whatever He asks of you. When we obey God’s voice ~ which is always confirmed by the principle of Scripture ~ then we are able to accomplish things that can be accomplished no other way. Even if what God asks of you has never been done by you before, know that whatever He asks of you can be done. Doing new things as a result of hearing His voice causes our faith to grow more and more. Faith grows when we accept God’s challenges to us. The more we learn to depend on God, the more we will be amazed at what He can do, and how He can use us. And the devil hates that, because he cannot defeat those walking in the authority of God’s purpose for us. Hallelujah!

This is what God desires for every one of us: “That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened (“to make powerful”) with might (“dunamis” – power capable of anything and everything”) through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend (“to perceive, know”) with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height ~ to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly (“over and above”) above all that we ask or think, according to the power (“dunamis”) that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen” (Ephesians 3:16-21).

The words “might” and “power” are translated from the Greek word “dumanis” and means: “act of power” (Young’s); “miraculous power, ability” (Strong’s); “natural capability, inherent power; capability of anything, ability to perform anything; then, absolutely, not merely power capable of action, but, power in actions” (Bullinger’s). “Dunamis” is used 121 times in the New Testament and translated into the following English words: ability (1 time), abundance (1), meaning (1), might (4), mighty deed (1), mighty work (11), miracle (8), power (77), strength (7), violence (1), virtue (3), wonderful work (1), worker of miracles (1), and mighty(4). This is what enables us to live and function in the authority of God through Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit! It is God’s purpose for you and me!

When we do things God’s way, then we have His power and authority with us, and that enables us to live and walk in a victory that the enemy is unable to penetrate. We need to know personally, that “Greater is He (Jesus) Who is in us, than he (the enemy) that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). These promises are not just theories; they are there for us to prove and walk in as we continue to listen to God’s voice and obey whatever He asks of us. Living that way puts us right in the very centre of His will for our life, and enables us to accomplish things that can be accomplished no other way.

The big questions are:

  • Are we listening to God’s voice?
  • Do we know when He is speaking to us personally?
  • Do we know His voice sufficiently enough that we are prepared to commit to doing whatever He asks of us?
  • When we are, then we experience God in ways that will amaze us at what He can do in and through our obedience to whatever He asks of us.
  • Be encouraged to draw closer to Jesus, listening to His voice, and being committed to obeying Him, and that will bring about wonderful results.

God bless you.
