The Baptism Of The Holy Spirit
- Baptism In The Holy Spirit Is A Full Immersion Into God’s Spirit.
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is more than just being born again of the Holy Spirit. It is a total infilling of The Holy Spirit. The very word baptism means to be fully whelmed or immersed as in water baptism. In water baptism a person in fully immersed into water and in Spirit baptism a person is fully immersed into the Spirit of God.
It is an experience that is subsequent to the new birth. We find in the scriptures that the disciples were both born of the Spirit and baptized in the Holy Spirit. One example of this is found with the people of Samaria in Acts chapter eight.
Acts 8:4-6…Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word. Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
Acts 8:12… But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.
These people were saved, water baptized, delivered of demons, and experienced miracles, yet they did not receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit until the apostles at Jerusalem sent Peter and John to them. The apostles in Jerusalem thought it was so important for them to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit that they sent Peter and John to minister it to them.
Acts 8:14-17… Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
- Baptism In The Holy Spirit Is Accompanied By Speaking In Tongues.
The scriptures consistently show that whenever the baptism of the Holy Spirit came to believers, it was accompanied by speaking in tongues.
Acts 2:4… And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 2:33… “Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.
This experience with tongues as the accompanying sign also happened when the Gentile believers were brought into the church.
Acts 10:44-46… While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.
Acts 11:16… identifies both this experience and the one in Acts 2 as the baptism of the Holy Spirit that John the Baptist prophesied would happen.
Mark 16:17… And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues.
John 7:37-39… Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Why The Baptism Of The Holy Spirit Is Necessary:
As we see from these scriptures, the baptism of the Holy Spirit is something Jesus said all believers should receive – “these signs will follow those who believe…” He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive. What is it about the baptism of the Holy Spirit that makes it so necessary to our walk with the Lord?
- It Is A Vital Part Of Our Spiritual Foundation.
Hebrews 6:1-3… Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits.
If we are to grow up and be mature into all that Christ desires for us, we must have this experience of the baptism of the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues. We are a spiritual house that is to come into the full measure of Christ.
- It Brings Us Into God’s Supernatural Power.
Acts 1:8…“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Ephesians 1:19… and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power…
As Christians we are called to do great exploits for God and to wage a spiritual warfare with our enemy, Satan. Without the power that comes forth from the baptism of the Holy Spirit we will find ourselves coming out on the losing end. Our enemy has supernatural power, but God says that He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world – 1 John 4:4. The baptism of the Holy Spirit releases this power in our lives.
- Baptism In The Holy Spirit Helps To Purify Us.
Matthew 3:11-12… “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. “His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
Part of our calling as Christians is to be Holy as God is Holy. We have been called to be holy and blameless. Jesus is coming back for a bride without spot or blemish. In the parable of the ten virgins, Jesus shows us that it is the oil or the baptism of the Holy Spirit that prepares us for this beautiful relationship between Christ and his purified bride.
- Baptism In The Holy Spirit Builds and Strengthens Our Faith.
Jude 1:20… But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit…
1 Corinthians 14:4… He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
- Baptism In The Holy Spirit Helps Us Pray In God’s Will.
1 Corinthians14:2.. For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
Although the scripture below isn’t necessarily speaking about speaking in tongues it is talking about a very similar experience when the Holy Spirit takes over. In light of the above Scripture, I believe the same principle is being incorporated when we pray in tongues or in the Spirit.
Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us…
1 Corinthians 14:15 What is the result then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.
- It Brings Us Into A Deeper Level Of Intimacy With God.
1 Corinthians14:2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
- It Brings Us Into A Deeper Level Of Revelation Of God’s Word.
1 John 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.
1 John 2:27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
- It Brings Rest To Our Souls.
Isaiah 28:11-12 For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people, to whom He said, “This is the rest with which you may cause the weary to rest,” And, “This is the refreshing”; yet they would not hear.

The Power of Prayer
Has your house become a house of prayer? As time draws near to the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, it’s time to get our houses in order and prepare for His coming. One way we can begin to prepare for His coming is by making our house a house of prayer. Prayer is not a strange thing to God. He has commanded us to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Pray every day, morning, noon, and night. Of course it’s a sacrifice, but through faith and the power of the Holy Ghost you can do it. Daniel was a man who prayed to the Father three times a day and as a result of him praying, when he was thrown in the “Lion’s den” the lions couldn’t touch him because God protected him by shutting the “Lions mouth”. Just like Daniel, when you begin to make prayer a way of living, you too will be protected from the snare and trap of the enemy. You will begin to experience the goodness of the Lord and start to notice how things are changing for the better in the midst of a dark world. You’ll begin to grow strong in faith knowing that whatever God says is so! God will be glorified and you will be edified! Your love walk will change and you will not take any thought of an evil that has been done to you; instead you’ll begin to pray for the person that has caused you pain. When you pray, you pray the Word of God. Prayer is saying to God what He has already said to you in His Word. I strongly urge you in these final hours to make your house a house of prayer. The redemption of the Lord draws near (Luke 21:28). Gather your family together, spouse and children, and make a quality decision to make your house a house of prayer where God will be honored. You don’t have to wait to go to church to pray or wait for someone else to pray for you. There is power in your prayer and God will hear and honor your prayer when you draw close to Him. The enemy will try to put many thoughts into your mind as to why you shouldn’t pray – know that he’s already defeated by the Power of God’s Holy Word. Just do it! The Father will help you when you are sincere in your prayer walk of faith. It’s a sacrifice but you can do it and you won’t regret you made a quality decision to do so. Again, I challenge you to make your house a “house of prayer” and start today!

In His Presence:
The more we spend time in God’s presence and in His Word, the enemy doesn’t like it. He will try to do anything to keep us from receiving what God has for us. He’s full of deceptions. The enemy wants us to walk around living defeated lives. He doesn’t want us to know who God is and if we don’t know who God is, we’ll never know who we really are in Christ. I encourage you to continue on in the race for Christ and “fight” the good “fight of faith” knowing you have the victory. Don’t let the enemy cause you to lose out on what God has for you. Your breakthrough could be right on the edge: your deliverance, your new job, your promotion, your healing, or whatever it is you’re believing God to manifest in your life. It’s not that we’re seeking God to see what we can get from Him; because we’re children of God it already belongs to us. We are joint heirs with Christ Jesus, meaning whatever Jesus has we have it to. We spend time in His presence because we love Him, and there’s no greater love than being in the presence of the Father. In His presence, there’s fullness of joy. There’s so much peace. You can rest when you’re in the presence of God. The heaviness begins to fall off when you’re in the presence of God. When difficult times approach you, don’t run from the church, run to the church because you can pull from the strength of other believers in the Lord. Hebrew 10: 25 tells us not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together with the Body of Christ…; therefore, it’s a blessing to fellowship with other believers in rendering worship unto the Lord as you press forward in fighting the good fight of faith! Stay encouraged and prosper in the Lord!

Mental Attitudes That Defeat Us in Winning Souls
Soul winning is one of the most fulfilling parts of being a Christian. It is because we are carrying out the assignment that God has given to every born-again believer. In John 3:16, it says “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life”. It is God’s desire that every man have eternal life. When we are led by the Spirit and win souls for Christ, it’s pleasing to the Father. In the book of Romans 8:14 it says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Your emotions, thoughts and feelings should not be in control. These things must line up with the Holy Spirit to carry out the will of the Father. However, there are times when it can be challenging to go out and win someone to Christ. The challenge isn’t always the person that you’re witnessing to. The challenge can be within us. Most mental attitudes that defeat Christians in soul winning are based on feelings, emotions and negative thinking. The following are just a few of those mental attitudes that can defeat us in winning souls.
- The attitude of feeling incompetent (2 Corinthians 3:5-6; Philippians 4:13).
- The attitude of not feeling led to go (Mark 16:15).
- The attitude that winning souls is not so important (John 15:16).
- The attitude that a sinner must have a mountain shaking experience in order to be saved (Romans 10:9-10).
- The attitude that a sinner must “Pray Through” in order to be saved (Ephesians 2:8-9).
- The attitude that you should only deal with “Prepared Hearts” (1 Corinthians 3:6).
These attitudes, feelings and thoughts must all be brought into the obedience of Christ.
In 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 it states, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds. Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”. The key to overcoming negative thoughts and feelings is to rely on the Word of God. On the battlefield we must not allow ourselves to become confident in anything other than Jesus.
What is Confidence?
Confidence is defined as to have an inward certainty, to be convinced, a trust. An assurance that stands firm upon a foundation that has substance and or boldness.
Proverbs 3:26 “For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught and 1John 5:14 “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will he hears us”.
It’s through confidence in our Helper, the Holy Spirit that when we walk into a home, He will give us the words we need to speak, “Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer, for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist” (Luke 21:14-15). In Psalms 118:8 it says, “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man”, man includes the fleshly part of you. This is how we overcome the fear of failure by, “trusting in the Lord with all thy heart and leaning not unto thy own understanding, but in all thy ways acknowledging him and he will direct thy paths”
(Proverbs 3:5-6).
Let’s look at the following example:
You may find yourself witnessing to a person and there may be lot of things going on in your mind like:
- I don’t know what to say.
- I can’t do this.
- What if the person does not receive what I say?
We must remember that the Holy Spirit is on the inside of us He is our helper. Call upon him to help you say the right things; he already knows what you are thinking. Remember, the person may not receive salvation the moment you share the Word with them, have a farmer’s mentality; Paul did. He said in the book of 1 Corinthians 3:6, “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase”. So confidence in Jesus and the Word must always outweigh what we feel. You may feel like you didn’t get through to that individual, but God has a plan and our confidence must be in God’s plan concerning that person’s life.
How do we walk in Confidence?
Walking in confidence starts with knowing who you are. A good example is David. While visiting his brothers and the Israelite soldiers on the battlefield, David listened as Goliath, the Philistine giant demanded an opponent for battle. It was then that David asked an important question in 1 Samuel 17:26, he asked, “for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God”? Basically, David was saying, look we are the promised people of the living God. How can this guy think he could defeat the people who are in covenant with the almighty God? So walking in confidence means you must know what God says about you. Know the promises of God and trust in them. Later David asked permission of King Saul to challenge Goliath. The king himself doubted that David could defeat the giant. But David explained in 1 Samuel 17:36-37 “that the Lord had delivered him out of the paw of the lion and the bear and that God would deliver him out of the hand of this Philistine”. This shows the inward certainty that David had in God. Confidence to overcome feelings, emotions and bad thoughts can be defeated by remembering other trials and tribulations God has brought you through. He is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore.
God is the one in control, all we must do is yield to His leading and He will direct our steps. For in Him we live, and move, and have our being. (Acts 17:28, Galatians 1:16).

Hell Greatest Concern (Luke 16: 27-31)
The rich man in hell had 2 concerns: (1) that maybe some way he might be relieved of his awful suffering. Abraham of course assured him that there was no way that he could ever be released. That tells us, that once a man dies, his character is fixed forever. When a man dies there is no second chance, there is no parole there is no reprieve, and there is no appeal. His character is fixed forever. This man did not love God on earth; he didn’t love God in hell. He didn’t repent on earth, he couldn’t repent in hell. As a man dies, so he remains for all eternity. (2) This second concern overpowered the first. Since I cannot get out then I want you to make sure that somebody wins my 5 brothers so that they don’t come here. This man loved his 5 brothers on earth and he still loved them in hell.
Some have foolishly made the statement, “If I go to hell I will have plenty of company.” The truth is that people in hell don’t want anymore company. They don’t want anybody else to come and especially members of their own family. So he said I want you to do something to see that my 5 brothers get saved so that they don’t come where I am. What kind of place is hell if the people who are there don’t want to see anyone else come to that terrible place? So we must conclude that the greatest concern of hell is for Christians on earth to win lost souls so that they don’t go to that terrible place. The greatest concern of hell is soul winning.

THE NEW BIRTH: JOHN 3-21 NLT
There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee. After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. “Rabbi,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.” Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” “What do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?” Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again. ‘The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.” “How are these things possible?” Nicodemus asked. Jesus replied, “You are a respected Jewish teacher, and yet you don’t understand these things? I assure you, we tell you what we know and have seen, and yet you won’t believe our testimony. But if you don’t believe me when I tell you about earthly things, how can you possibly believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man has come down from heaven. And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life. “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”

Outreach Training Workshops and Dynamic Soul Winning Techniques
Many people believe winning souls for the Kingdom of God is only the responsibility of the Pastors, Ministers, or those in leadership positions within a church organization. Throughout the New Testament, the mandate has been given to every born again Believer to go out and save until every lost soul has been snatched from the control of the devil. Satan wants to get revenge against God by blinding the minds of men to keep them from believing the Gospel of Jesus. Although God hates sin, yet He still loves men, and doesn’t want even one soul to be lost. It is up to the Believers to carry out His Will in the Earth. (Mark 16:15; Luke 14:23; 1 Cor.4:4)
These workshops are designed is to give you biblical understanding and training in winning others to the Lord more effectively by possessing a compelling love for others that gives one the desire to see them saved.

The Kingdom of God
One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question: “Teacher, what must I do to receive eternal life?” Jesus replied, “What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?” The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ” “Right!” Jesus told him. “Do this and you will live!” (NLT, Luke 10:25-28) The Kingdom of God is Love and love covers a multitude of sin. When one possesses the Spirit of God’s “Divine Love”, Agape Love, the nature of God; loving the unlovable will not be a challenge for you. You will be able to overlook ones faults, the hurt or pain one may have caused you. You will take no thought of the evil that has been done to you, you are quick to forgive, and the list goes on and on when you walk in the spirit of God’s Divine Love. Jesus is our awesome example when He went to the cross for you and I. Even Stephen, at the point of being stoned to death, asked the Lord to receive his spirit and to not charge them with this sin. (Acts 7:59)
