- A. Prayer Is Talking With God.
Prayer is two-way communication with God. God speaks to us by His Spirit… (John 10:2-4, 27; 1 Corinthians 2:10-13; John16:13; 1 Kings 19:12; Acts 10:19, 11:12; Jeremiah 33:3).
~~~ In our spirit, we hear His voice
~~~ Through His written Word (the Bible)
~~~ Through preaching, teaching and through others
~~~ Through circumstance
~~~ Audibly ( Exodus 3:4, Acts 9:4)
1 Corinthians 2:10 – But God has revealed them to us through by His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
1 Corinthians 2:12 – Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
- B. Listening To His Voice
It is so important that we take time to listen to His voice, and not just speak to Him. After you have spoken to the Lord, wait for Him to speak. I always begin this time by saying to the Lord, “Yes, Lord, Yes”. We should prepare our hearts to hear and to obey what the Lord speaks to us.
It is so important that we understand that prayer is two-way communication. We speak to Him and He speaks to us. (John 16:13, Acts 10:19, 11:12, 13:2) God has ordained prayer to affect the outcome of our spiritual and physical matters.
(Jeremiah 33:3; John 14:13; James 4:2-3; 5:16-18; 1 John 5:14-15) Jeremiah 33:3 – Call unto me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things which you do not know.
James 5:16b – …The effective fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
John 14:13 – And whatever you ask in my name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
